Filipinos troop to cemeteries for Undas 2025

Many Filipinos are expected to go to cemeteries on Saturday, November 1 for All Saints' Day (Undas 2025) to pay their respects to their departed loved ones.

As of 6 a.m., 70,000 Filipinos were already at cemeteries, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Public Information Office chief Police Major Hazel Asilo.

"All over Metro Manila, as of 6 a.m. kanina, mayroon na tayong nasa 70,000 na mga bumibisita sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay," Asilo said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

These were tallied in over 160 cemeteries and columbaries all over Metro Manila, she added.

"Peaceful naman at wala tayong nagiging problema sa ating mga sementeryo," Asilo said.

(So far it has been peaceful and no problem has been encountered in our cemeteries.)

"More or less makaka-one million tayo niyan," Daniel Tan, director of Manila North Cemetery, told reporters in an interview, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB.

(More or less, we are expecting one million visitors.)

On Saturday, visitors streamed continuously through Manila North Cemetery, said to be the biggest in the city.

Tan appealed to visitors to bring their own garbage bags so they can take their trash out themselves, according to a report by Carlo Mateo.

Four truckloads of garbage were hauled off Manila North Cemetery on Oct. 31, the eve of All Saints' Day.

At Manila South Cemetery, meanwhile, it was still quiet at 6 a.m., as seen on a video taken by Mao dela Cruz of Super Radyo dzBB.

In Marikina City, visitors topped 11,000 at Loyola Memorial Park on Oct. 31, according to a report by Mark Makalalad on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

Around the same number of visitors, if not more, are expected to visit today, according to park officials.

As of 6 a.m. on Saturday, 1,500 individuals were monitored to be at Loyola Memorial Park, many of them having stayed overnight.

Families were seen having breakfast while candles and flowers were placed at their departed loved ones' tombs.

Security was tight in the area, and Marikina City traffic personnel were on site managing traffic going to and from the memorial park.

A. Bonifacio Avenue was made one-way to make traffic smoother near the memorial park.

Meanwhile, at Dangwa Flower Market in Sampaloc, Manila, flower prices slightly went down on Saturday morning, according to a report by Carlo Mateo.

The Department of Health said Saturday that it has raised Code White alert in observance of Undas, or All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

The National Telecommunications Commission ordered its regional offices to assist the public in their areas of jurisdiction during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., in his message for Undas, said that Filipinos dedicate the first two days of November to “a solemn pause to pray, reflect, and recall the many people whose deeds and presence continue to be felt long after their passing.”

Vice President Sara Duterte on the other hand expressed hope that unity will prevail in every Filipino family as the nation observes All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

November 1 was earlier declared a special non-working day to allow Filipinos to head to their hometowns and observe the annual tradition with their families. —KG, GMA Integrated News
