Vessels in 4 areas under Signal No. 1 prohibited from sailing amid Tino — PCG

Vessels in four areas under Signal No. 1 are prohibited from sailing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday as Tropical Storm Tino intensified into a severe tropical storm earlier today.

“Pagdating sa safety, wala tayong paalisin na barko kung ang area ng pantalan ay merong nakataas na signal or yung pupuntahan at saka dadaanan po,” PCG spokesperson Captain Noemie Cayabyab told Super Radyo dzBB.

(When it comes to safety, we will not allow any ship to depart if the port is under an active signal, or if the route it will take passes through a similar area.)

Based on the state weather bureau’s 11 a.m. weather bulletin, Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands and Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands.

Cayabyab said coast guard is still consolidating the number of affected passengers.

She added that in response to the weather disturbance, PCG’s deployable response groups were activated.

These include rescue swimmers, medical teams, and floating and air assets.

PCG personnel are also ordered to assist the local government units and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Undas 2025

Cayabyab said passengers continue to flock seaports as they are expected to return to their respective homes after the observance of Undas 2025.

“As of the moment, we were able to record a total of 574,348 inbound passengers and 621,574 outbound passengers,” she said.

She added that PCG is also monitoring the possible influx of tourists to coastal beaches.

There were no reported untoward incidents as concerns of the passengers were addressed accordingly.

Cayabyab said the PCG also responded to near-drowning incidents in several areas, where they rescued all six people. —RF, GMA Integrated News
