Heavy rains cause floods in Agusan del Norte; 1,500 passengers stranded in Bicol
Heavy rain has flooded parts of Agusan del Norte while at least 1,500 passengers and 400 vehicles were stranded in ports in the Bicol Region amid the threat of Typhoon Tino.
In Tina Panganiban Perez’ Monday report on “24 Oras,” heavy rains lashed Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, even before Tino makes landfall, with some areas experiencing flooding.
The downpour has swelled the river in the town of Tubay, causing waist-level floods that entered some houses.
Bais City in Negros Oriental, which is under Signal No. 2 experienced heavy rain.
Also under Signal No.2 is Dumaguete City where several ships and smaller seacraft are stranded at the port. As a precaution, fisherfolk moved their boats to higher ground to protect them from storm damage.
Meanwhile, long lines of trucks were observed in Bulan, Sorsogon, following the suspension of ship traffic to Leyte and Masbate.
A blue alert status is now implemented in Catanduanes in preparation for the effects of Tino.
The Philippine Coast Guard also suspended sea travel for safety.
In Bohol, the provincial government conducted a preemptive evacuation of nearly 270 individuals living on the island or in coastal areas in the municipality of Getafe. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
