DSWD calls for more volunteers to help Tino-affected families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday called for more volunteers to assist with the ongoing production of family food packs for the victims of Typhoon Tino.

Those interested to serve as volunteers may go to the Luzon Disaster Resource Center along Chapel Road in Barangay 195, Pasay City, which is open from Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The first shift will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the second shift will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"Every helping hand contributes to saving lives and restoring dignity to disaster-stricken families," DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said in a statement.

"Volunteers contribute to DSWD's 'Buong Bansa Handa' objective of ensuring the readiness of the Department, especially in the provision of relief assistance in times of crisis," she added.

Interested volunteers may register online. https://forms.gle/MV7c6294ZNMrcxgP6

They may also reach out to DSWD through 0993-495-5458 or 0969-179-5117, or via email at volunteer.nrlmb@dswd.gov.ph.

DSWD reported earlier that more than 2.1 million family food packs have been prepositioned in critical, strategic areas as part of its preparations for the onslaught of Typhoon Tino in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Based on state weather bureau PAGASA's 2 p.m. weather bulletin, four areas are under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 4 as Tino further weakened and decelerated over the Iloilo Strait.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), meanwhile, is validating reports of at least three deaths linked to Typhoon Tino, which caused high-level floods and mass evacuations across parts of Visayas and Mindanao. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
