Typhoon Tino affected almost 2M people —NDRRMC
A total of 1,951,546 people or 544,081 families have been affected by Typhoon Tino, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.
In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the affected regions were Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
Most of the affected individuals were recorded in Western Visayas with 643,101 people or 198,550 families.
Of the total affected population, 445,744 people or 127,827 families were staying in evacuation centers while 116,293 people or 36,752 families were taking shelter in other places.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) earlier said that 114 were reported dead and 127 were reported missing after Tino’s onslaught.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has approved the recommendation to declare a state of national calamity due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.
““Because of the scope of problem areas that [have] been hit by Tino and will be hit by Uwan... There was a proposal from the NDRRMC which I approved that we declare a national calamity,” Marcos said.
''There will be almost 10 regions, 10 to 12 regions that will be affected. So pagkaganoong karami, ganoon ang scope, then it is a national calamity... that gives us quicker access to some of the emergency funds,'' he added.
According to the NDRRMC, incidents of floods, landslides, fallen trees and debris, and overflowing rivers were monitored in different areas across the country,
A total of 1,292 houses were damaged — 1,226 partially and 66 totally. Around 75 infrastructures worth P6,330,000 were also damaged.
The NDRRMC said 42 of the 69 affected road sections as well as five of the eight affected bridges remained impassable.
Power outages were still reported in 119 of the 156 affected areas. Water supply problems were still encountered in all seven affected areas. Communication line issues were still experienced in all 10 affected areas.
Two affected airports remained non-operational.
Of the 137 affected seaports, 32 were still non-operational, leaving 2,655 passengers, 739 rolling cargoes, 95 vessels, and nine motorbancas stranded.
Classes in 680 areas and work schedules in 468 areas have been suspended due to the impact of the typhoon.
Assistance worth P86,100,599 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
