OP gives over P700M cash aid to Tino victims

The Office of the President will provide P760 million in cash assistance to local government units affected by Typhoon Tino.

This was announced by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro during a press briefing on Thursday.

Castro said P50 million each is allocated to the provinces of Cebu, Capiz, Surigao del Norte, Iloilo, Bohol, and Negros Occidental, while Eastern Samar, Surigao del Sur, Southern Leyte, Antique, and Aklan will get P40 million each.

Meanwhile, P30 million each will be given to Leyte and Masbate; P20 million each for Guimaras, Agusan del Norte, and Dinagat Islands; and P10 million each for Biliran, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Misamis Oriental, Negros Oriental, and Palawan.

The following areas will receive P5 million each: Albay, Romblon, Batangas, Northern Samar, Siquijor, Quezon, Samar, Agusan del Sur, Laguna, Zamboanga City, the City of Manila (due to stranded passengers), Camiguin, Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Zamboanga del Norte, and Iligan City.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has said that he has approved the recommendation to declare a state of national calamity due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.

Marcos said this after a situation briefing with concerned government agencies.

''There will be almost 10 regions, 10 to 12 regions that will be affected. So pagkaganoong karami, ganoon ang scope (If the scope is wide), then it is a national calamity... that gives us quicker access to some of the emergency funds,'' he added.

''We are continuing our relief support for those who were hit by typhoon Tino,'' Marcos said.

Castro said that the President wants immediate action to ensure that the typhoon-affected communities recover quickly.

She added that there is no request for foreign assistance yet because there are still sufficient funds.—VAL/VBL, GMA Integrated News
