After losing homes, Talisay City residents deal with muddy temporary shelter

Floods from Typhoon Tino swept away many homes, including those of residents of Barangay Dumlog in Talisay City, Cebu earlier this week.

According to Susan Enriquez’s report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, evacuees now have to deal with the muddy floor of their barangay’s gymnasium, which serves as an evacuation center.

Finding it impossible to sleep on the muddied floor, the displaced residents had to find spaces in the bleachers where they could rest their weary bodies.

Although tents were provided to the residents, these were unusable at this point because of the mud that would make it impossible to erect tents as temporary shelters.

Evacuees are also waiting for relief aid such as food, water, medicines, and other necessities.

Some residents chose not to stay at the evacuation center.

Wilfredo Asis, whose home was swept away, said he will build a hut as a temporary shelter for him and his family.

“Para meron kaming matulugan,” he added.
