Uwan to affect over 50 provinces —OCD

Uwan to affect over 50 provinces —OCD

Over 50 Philippine provinces will be affected by Typhoon Uwan, the Office of Civil Defense said Saturday.

“Mayroon na tayong 54 provinces na apektado nito as far sa Region 1 hanggang Caraga, itong northern part ng Mindanao,” said Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV in a briefing.

(We now have 54 provinces affected by Typhoon Uwan, as far as Region 1 to Caraga, the northern part of Mindanao.)

“Apektado rin nito, kung tuloy-tuloy ang track, itong mga rehiyon natin sa Visayas — Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas,” he added.

(This will also affect, if the track continues, regions in Visayas—Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.)

The OCD however did not specify the provinces, but that the National Capital Region is included.

“Fifty four, kasi one area ang NCR (54, NCR is one area), that’s 53 provinces plus NCR,” Alejandro said.

Alejandro cited figures from its Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) on Friday that around 5.7 million individuals in coastal areas are exposed to the threat of Typhoon Uwan.

“And then another 61.6 million naman ay exposed dito sa buong track niya nadadaanan,” he said.

(Another 61.6 million are exposed throughout the track that Uwan will pass through.)

Measures

The OCD appealed to the local and provincial government units that will be affected by Typhoon Uwan to conduct their preemptive or preparatory measures not later than noon on Sunday.

“We are appealing that this should be done sana nga, not later than noon tomorrow (Sunday). Dapat tapos na po lahat ng pre-emptive or preparatory activities kasi nga we cannot wait na nandiyan na ‘yung ulan, nandiyan na ‘yung hangin, saka pa lang sila mag-evacuate," Alejandro said.
