Uwan causes power outage in Luzon, 276k customers affected – Meralco


Around 276,000 customers in parts of Luzon have lost their power supply as of Sunday evening as Super Typhoon Uwan continues to batter the country, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said. 

This was according to Meralco’s 9 p.m. update on power interruptions. Previously, the utility provider reported that power interruptions due to Uwan has affected 184,000 customers.

Ïn a statement, Meralco said its crews are working round-the-clock to restore power in parts of Laguna, Cavite, Metro Manila, Batangas, Quezon, and Bulacan.

“Meralco appeals for patience as it prioritizes the safety of both customers and crews on the ground. The company assures affected customers that power will be restored as soon as the weather conditions permit,” Meralco said.

In another advisory, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 said both the northbound and southbound elevators in its Quezon Avenue and Magallanes Stations are currently unavailable due to power fluctuations. 

All escalators at the Magallanes Station are also currently unavailable due to power fluctuations, the MRT-3 said. 

“Our maintenance team is already conducting necessary safety checks and will restore operations as soon as conditions permit,” the MRT-3 added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
