2 reported hurt in Catanduanes amid Uwan wrath
At least two people were reportedly injured in Catanduanes early Sunday morning amid the rough weather brought by Super Typhoon Uwan, the Catanduanes Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said.
“May dalawang insidente nangyari kaninang madaling araw. Yung isang matandang babae nasa evacuation area na, inatake ng hika. Yun ang nirespondihan ng tropa namin dito,” PDRRMO’s Roberto Monterola told Super Radyo dzBB in an interview.
(Two incidents occurred early this morning. One involved an elderly woman suffered an asthma attack at the evacuation area and our team responded to the emergency.)
“Dinala namin dito dahil may generator kami dito sa PDRRMO, nilapatan ng lunas,” he added.
(We brought her to our office because we have a generator here.)
Monterola was unable to give details on the other incident.
He added that several areas in Virac own were also flooded due to the heavy rains dumped by Uwan.
Strong waves and storm surges hit Imelda Boulevard in Barangay Rawis in Virac, Catanduanes.
In PAGASA’s 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Catanduanes was previously placed under Signal No. 5. This was later downgraded to Signal No. 3 in the state weather bureau’s 8 p.m. bulletin.
Earlier today, the Catanduanes PDRRMO said residents in high-risk communities in Catanduanes have already evacuated their homes ahead of Uwan’s landfall.
In a separate dzBB interview, Monterola said the Catanduanes PDRRMO is closely monitoring the towns of Bagamanoc, Payo, and Viga as these areas were flooded during the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Rolly in 2020. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/JMA, GMA Integrated News
