Super Typhoon Uwan downs 36 power lines in Luzon, Visayas

Over 30 transmission lines across Luzon and the Visayas are currently unavailable after Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) swept through the regions on Sunday evening, leaving households without electricity.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said a total of 36 transmission lines remain unavailable as its teams conduct simultaneous patrols and restoration work.

“Please note that loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives,” the NGCP said.

“Specific cities and municipalities affected by power interruptions are determined by concerned distribution utilities, unless the outage affects the entire franchise area,” it added.

Uwan weakened into a typhoon early Monday morning, but Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 remains in effect over eight areas in Luzon, with lower signals raised over several other areas.

The state weather bureau PAGASA earlier warned of a high risk of life-threatening storm surges over 3 meters high within the next 12 hours in low-lying and exposed coastal communities in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, most of MIMAROPA, Aklan, and Antique.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
