Canadian Embassy sympathizes with Uwan victims

The Embassy of Canada in the Philippines on Monday vowed to assist the victims of Typhoon Uwan that hit the country this weekend as it expressed sympathies to affected families. 

''Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Super typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) in several regions across the Philippines,'' the embassy said in a social media post.

''We continue to coordinate with partners from the Philippine government, humanitarian agencies, and the international community to determine how best to help address urgent needs and support recovery efforts,'' it added. 

A total of two people were reported killed in Viga, Catanduanes and Catbalogan City, Samar due to the impact of Uwan, which was earlier categorized as a super typhoon

Two individuals, meanwhile, were reported injured.

A total of 1.4 million people or 426,000 families have been preemptively evacuated in Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Negros Island Region, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA Integrated News
