Uwan death toll now 6 —NDRRMC
The reported death toll following the onslaught of Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) has increased to six, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday.
In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said three of the fatalities were reported in Cagayan Valley and one each in Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
A total of 13 people were also reported injured.
Uwan affected a total of 2,358,476 people or 652,632 families in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Most of the affected individuals were reported in Bicol with 1,163,473, followed by Negros Island Region with 198,120 and Eastern Visayas with 186,532.
Of the affected population, 803,610 people or 231,215 families were staying in evacuation centers while 265,224 people or 78,093 families were taking shelter in other places.
Floods, storm surges, landslides, fallen trees and debris, as well as maritime incidents were reported in different areas across the country.
A total of 4,143 houses were damaged — 3,347 partially, 796 totally.
The NDRRMC said 202 of the 299 affected road sections and 51 of the 56 affected bridge sections remained impassable.
Power supply in 394 of the 426 affected areas remained interrupted. Water supply problems were still reported in 20 of the 27 affected areas. Also, communication line issues were still encountered in all 30 affected areas.
An affected airport has returned to operations.
However, 143 of the 180 affected seaports remained non-operational, leaving 2,787 passengers, rolling cargoes, 34 vessels, and 20 motorbancas stranded.
Classes in 1,035 areas and work schedules in 823 areas have been suspended due to Uwan’s threat.
Assistance worth P48,882,435 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.
Typhoon Uwan exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Tuesday.
Uwan maintained its strength, moving northward outside PAR on Tuesday morning as Signal No. 2 remained in effect over 10 areas, according to PAGASA. —KG, GMA Integrated News
