Uwan death toll now at 25 — OCD
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Tuesday that the death toll from Super Typhoon Uwan has risen to 25.
The fatalities were reported in Cagayan Valley (3), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) (19), Bicol Region (1), Western Visayas (1), and Eastern Visayas (1).
“Actually, ang dumami ang CAR… Ang dumagdag is CAR,” OCD Deputy Administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV told reporters.
(Actually, the figures in CAR increased…so the additions are in CAR.)
Alejandro added that two people remain missing in the Cordillera region, while the number of reported injuries has risen to 29.
When asked if the death toll is expected to rise further, Alejandro said:
“Ako personally, I don't expect na ano ito, mag-doble, kung may dagdag man baka 10, maximum na yung 10, tantsa ko lang ko lang.”
(Personally, I don’t expect it to double. If there is an increase, maybe 10 more—that’s the maximum, just my estimate.)
Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed that 762,862 families, or 2,722,161 individuals, were affected by Uwan.
Uwan, which has since been downgraded as a severe tropical storm, also displaced 1,188,764 people as it reached super typhoon strength, the OCD said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said damage and losses from Uwan have so far reached ?142.29 million.
