SC approves code of conduct and accountability for judges, justices

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday announced that it has approved the Code of Judicial Conduct and Accountability (CJCA) for judges and justices.

“The CJCA provides clearer guidance on the principles of independence, integrity, impartiality, propriety, equality, competence, diligence, and accountability, while also integrating provisions responsive to the realities of contemporary judging,” the SC said.

According to the SC, the CJCA strengthened rules on conflict of interest, financial disclosure, and standards of propriety.

It also expanded accountability measures and issued guidelines on the responsible use of technology and social media.

Aside from this, it said that the CJCA promotes gender fairness, inclusivity, and sensitivity in judicial behavior and communications.

The SC said the CJCA joins the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA) for members of the Philippine bar and the Code of Conduct and Accountability for Court Officials and Personnel (CCACOP) for all court officials and personnel.

The CJCA will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in two newspapers of general circulation and after its posting on the SC website. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
