CIDG: No comment on reported ICC arrest warrant vs Bato
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday refused to discuss the alleged arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
“As of now, I cannot comment on that,” CIDG acting director Police Major General Robert Morico II said at a press briefing when asked about the alleged ICC arrest warrant against the solon.
However, Morico pointed out the CIDG will implement an arrest warrant from a “competent court”.
“But if there is an order from a competent court, whoever po ang nakapangalan doon (is named there), you know, we will implement the warrant of arrest,” the CIDG chief said.
On November 8, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla said the ICC has already issued a warrant of arrest against Dela Rosa.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said that no red notice from ICC has been received yet by the Center for Transnational Crime.
Boying on Tuesday said that he has an unofficial copy of the supposed arrest warrant.
Jonvic on Wednesday said Boying, his brother, obtained the copy of the alleged ICC arrest warrant for Bato through a "third source."
Dela Rosa’s camp previously said that it has yet to get a hand on official information that the ICC has indeed issued a warrant against him.
The senator’s counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon, said they have been made aware of circulating reports.
Based on government records, around 6,200 drug suspects were killed during the Duterte administration's anti-drug operations. Human rights organizations, however, say that the number may reach 30,000 due to the unreported related deaths.
Dela Rosa was the chief of the Philippine National Police when the deadly war on drugs was implemented. Prior to this, he served as Davao City’s chief of police under Duterte and his daughter Sara during their rspective terms as mayors. —RF, GMA Integrated News
