Marcos visits Uwan-hit Catanduanes

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Thursday inspected the areas hardest hit by Super Typhoon Uwan in Catanduanes as he also oversaw the distribution of assistance to affected residents.

Marcos went to the Tubli Elementary School in Barangay Tubli, Caramoran where he inspected the classrooms damaged by Uwan and those that were destroyed by Super Typhoon Pepito last year.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, Tubli Elementary School has 739 learners and 30 staff personnel.

Of its 23 classrooms, one was totally damaged, 14 sustained major damage while the rest had minor damage due to Uwan, the PCO added.

Marcos also inspected the damaged houses and the seawall in the same barangay.
The PCO said that Caramoran has 558 totally damaged residences and 2,127 partially damaged homes.

To recall, several residents of Barangay Tubli, a coastal community, lost safe shelters after storm surges from Uwan swept away their houses.

Marcos, meanwhile, donated two units of Starlink internet satellite to Tubli Elementary School and the Caramoran local government unit.

The President directed concerned government agencies to continue to provide relief and assistance to the affected residents so that they can recover and return to normalcy.

Marcos was satisfied with the preemptive measures imposed ahead of the impact of Uwan, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said.

He lauded as "a difference-maker" the preemptive evacuation done by the local government units in the areas on the path of Uwan.

Marcos made the remark as the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said preemptive evacuation efforts for 426,000 families have significantly reduced casualties. —RF, GMA Integrated News
