AFP sharpens land defense operations through joint drills

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Thursday conducted a Counter-Landing and Land Defense Exercise in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte to sharpen its abilities in executing integrated defense operations.

The drill was held at the La Paz Sand Dunes under the AFP Joint Exercise (AJEX) “DAGIT-PA” 09-2025 as part of its proactive efforts to strengthen defense capabilities and maintain operational readiness.

In a statement, the AFP said the exercise “highlighted the AFP’s proactive approach to training and its ability to execute integrated defense operations.”

“In a rapid and coordinated display, joint AFP forces conducted a simulated coastal defense maneuver, showcasing seamless interoperability among ground, artillery, and armored units,” it said.

Supporting assets used in the Counter-Landing and Land Defense Exercise were 105mm howitzers, Sabrah light tanks, and V-150 light armored vehicles to ensure a realistic and comprehensive training setting.

Personnel of the Philippine National Police personnel also took part in medical and emergency response scenarios.

The AJEX “DAGIT-PA” drills began last November 4 in various parts of Luzon and Palawan and is scheduled to end on Friday, November 14.

However, the AFP suspended its field training activities under the AJEX "DAGIT-PA" to focus on relief and response operations for then Super Typhoon Uwan.

AJEX “DAGIT-PA” stands for “Dagat, Langit, Lupa” (Sea, Sky, Land) and is a comprehensive training program designed to strengthen the interoperability of the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, and the Philippine Marine Corps in land, air, and maritime operations.

“Through the exercise, the AFP reinforces its commitment to continuous preparedness, ensuring that every unit is trained, equipped, and ready to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity and uphold its sovereignty,” the military added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
