LTFRB to bare fare hike plan to DOTr on Monday

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it will submit its recommendations on a proposed fare hike for public transport vehicles to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday.

According to a 24 Oras Weekend report on Saturday, LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the agency has been reviewing information gathered from various transport groups and commuters nationwide.

The LTFRB is also considering rising fuel prices and operational costs in its assessment.

Transport groups have long been pushing for a P1 provisional fare increase, with renewed calls following a big-time oil price hike in August 2025.

In August, the LTFRB opposed the fare hike proposal, saying it had provided fuel subsidies instead of adding to commuters’ burden.

The agency also noted that approving the requested fare increase may “take some time,” stressing that any adjustment must be based on “justifiable grounds.”

The LTFRB added that it will consult with the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) before making a decision. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/MCG, GMA Integrated News
