Palace security measures enough vs possible disturbances amid rallies — Castro

Sufficient security measures have been made at Malacañang Palace to avoid similar disturbances that occurred during the September 21 protest in Mendiola Street, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Sunday.

“Tingin ko sapat na ‘yung ginagawa nilang preparasyon. Kung ano man ang isasarang gate diyan, I think enough na ‘yan to give protection in the same para maiwasan ‘yung gulo,” the Palace official told Super Radyo dzBB.

(I think authorities have sufficient preparations. Whatever gate they decide to close, I believe it’s enough to provide protection and prevent any disturbances.)

Castro added the preparations were made to protect not only the people in Malacañang but also those in the vicinity.

“Hindi lang naman din ang Malacañang ang pinoprotektahan dito. Maraming taong maaaring idamay tulad noon. Nakaraan mag dinamay na ibang tao at establisimyento,” she said.

(The protective measures are not solely for Malacañang. Many people could potentially be involved. During the September 21 protest, members of the public and establishments were affected.)

“I think ready ang kapulisan natin sa ganyang klaseng mga aktibidad (I think the police are ready for these activities),” the Palace press officer said.

The PNP earlier said it has deployed more than 16,000 police personnel for the three-day anti-corruption protest, which will be held until Tuesday, November 18.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is on full alert status for public security during the consecutive rallies.

Last September 21, at least 216 persons, 89 of whom are minors, were arrested after violence broke out in Mendiola Street in Manila during the protest against corruption in relation to the alleged anomalous flood control projects. — RF, GMA Integrated News
