Liza Marcos inspired by Clooneys’ work in upholding human rights, press freedom
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos over the weekend recounted her encounter with Hollywood couple George and Amal Clooney as joyful and inspiring, especially with their track record in upholding human rights and press freedom.
The First Lady took to her social media accounts to share her meeting with the Clooneys, who paid a courtesy call on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang the day before.
“What a joy it was spending time with Amal and George Clooney. Our conversation about the Clooney Foundation for Justice – especially their work on press freedom and protecting human rights – was truly inspiring,” Araneta-Marcos said on social media on Saturday.
“Hearing firsthand how passionately they fight for the vulnerable reminded me of the power of compassion anchored in the rule of law,” said the First Lady, herself a lawyer and law professor.
She added: “I truly cherished our exchange, and I hope they feel the warmth of the Filipino spirit during their visit to our country.”
She also shared snapshots of the Marcos’ meeting with the Clooneys inside the Palace, which included a glimpse at Amal’s books, “Freedom of Speech in International Law” and “The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law.”
Araneta-Marcos joined the President in receiving the Clooneys during their courtesy call at the Palace on Friday.
George Clooney, a renowned actor well-regarded for his humanitarian initiatives, and his wife Amal, an international human rights lawyer, were in the country for the Social Good Summit 2025 held on Sunday at Lanson Place in Pasay City.
During their courtesy call on Marcos, the power couple discussed efforts to strengthen press freedom as well as the potential of tapping artificial intelligence (AI) in broadening access to justice.
