269 dead, 523 injured due to Typhoon Tino — OCD
The reported death toll from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) has reached 269, latest data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) showed.
In an update released Monday, the OCD said the number of fatalities were reported over the following areas:
- Antique - 1
- Capiz - 3
- Iloilo- 1
- Guimaras - 1
- Bohol - 1
- Cebu - 150
- Leyte - 2
- Southern Leyte - 2
- Negros Occidental - 77
- Negros Oriental - 23
- Agusan del Sur - 6
- Dinagat Island - 2
Meanwhile, a total of 523 individuals sustained injuries due to the tropical cyclone, of which 451 were from Cebu, 41 in Leyte, 28 in Negros Occidental, two in Surigao del Norte, and one in Surigao del Sur. 113 people were reported missing.
Typhoon Tino made landfalls over Silago, Southern Leyte; Borbon, Cebu; and Sagay City, Negros Occidental on November 4. Life-threatening conditions continued over Negros Island Region and then Tino approached Panay Island.
On November 5, Tino accelerated over the coastal waters of El Nido, Palawan.
Tino on November 6 exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Uwan
Meanwhile, the OCD data also showed that 28 individuals reportedly died due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan. This is an increase from the previous reported death toll of 27.
The OCD said the casualties were reported over:
- Nueva Vizcaya - 3
- Mountain Province - 3
- Kalinga - 4
- Benguet - 3
- Ifugao - 10
- Catanduanes - 1
- Capiz - 1
- Samar - 1
- Sulu - 1
- Cordillera Adminsitrative Region -- 1
A total of 52 people were reportedly injured from the typhoon while two were missing. One of the missing individuals was from Kalinga Province while the other was from Mountain Province.
Uwan made landfall over Dinalungan, Aurora on November 9 after intensifying into a super typhoon. It affected the northern and central Luzon as it traversed the Luzon landmass.
