INC ends rally vs corruption at Quirino Grandstand

The Iglesia ni Cristo on Monday night ended their rally against corruption at the Quirino Grandstand, a day ahead of its supposed culmination on Tuesday.

According to GMA Integrated News’ Sandra Aguinaldo, INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala said they did not need three days to achieve their goal and send a message calling for transparency and better governance.

“It did not need three days to achieve the goal of sending the message that we are calling for justice, accountability, transparency, and peace,” Zabala said.

As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office placed the crowd estimate at the Luneta at 550,000 people.

The day before, the crowd at the Luneta peaked at 650,000 as of 6 p.m. Sunday.

Earlier, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the first day of the supposedly three-day protest was generally peaceful, although he assured that the government is prepared to deal with destabilizers with the full force of the law.

Around 110,000 camped out overnight at the venue for the second day of the protest on Monday, according to the Manila Police District.

INC general evangelist Bienvenido Santiago Jr. said the INC’s three-day protest is aimed at calling for concrete actions to end corruption in flood control projects and not the government’s downfall. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
