Unveil Siargao’s biodiversity with this game app

LAOAG CITY, ILOCOS NORTE – Soon, discovering Siargao’s biodiversity is just a few clicks away with this game app developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

“Siargao Flora & Fauna Puzzle” was created through a biodiversity study of the DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), initiated by the Siargao local government.

The game app is one of the featured exhibits in the National Science and Technology Week 2025 which will run from Nov. 18 to 21 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

The game drew inspiration from the popular game, “Candy Crush” and allows players to unlock 24 species in Siargao by completing each level.

As the level goes higher, players can also unlock new information about the species.

These species vary from seven types of animals, including reptiles, amphibians, and crustaceans.

The game can be downloaded from Google Play for Android users and the Apple App Store for iPhone users.

It aims to educate players, especially the youth, about endemic species in Siargao and their importance to the island.

The NRCP has recorded at least 56 endemic species of animals on the island. —- JMA, GMA Integrated News
