Liza Marcos takes swipe at fake news amid drug use claims

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Wednesday took a swipe at those spreading fake news amid allegations hurled against her and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In posts on her Facebook and Instagram accounts at past midnight Wednesday, the First Lady shared photos of her meeting with a producer, director, and actors who were filming a movie in the country.

“Sometimes things happen for a reason,” Araneta-Marcos began.

She recalled how the foreign filmmakers praised Filipinos for being so “genuine and kind” and that they wanted to bring Hollywood to the country.

“We then talked about the script of their movie and I bit my tongue because I wanted to say:

‘Welcome to entertainment – Pinoy style! Only in the Pinas will you find a plot full of holes and actors who can’t deliver and a climax that leaves entire communities underwater,” the First Lady said.

“Let’s not even talk about fake news,” she added.

A few minutes later, Araneta-Marcos posted a photo that featured a fake statement being attributed to her. The fake art card featured a quote in which she supposedly addressed Senator Imee Marcos’ allegations of drug use against her and her husband.

“…. And speaking of fake news… ‘welcome to entertainment, Pinoy style!” the First Lady said.

Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro on Wednesday also slammed the "fake art card" in an interview on Unang Balita.

"Hindi po ganyan ang ugali ng ating First Lady," Castro said.

(Our First Lady is not like that.)

During the Iglesia ni Cristo rally on Monday night, the senator – Marcos’ elder sister – claimed that her brother’s drug addiction worsened as the First Lady was also allegedly using illegal drugs.

The senator also claimed that she even talked and begged then President Rodrigo Duterte to run after drug pushers and save drug users to spare her brother, who would succeed Duterte as President.

Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro initially dismissed the senator’s allegations as “a desperate move.”

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Castro said the First Couple is not yet contemplating any legal action against the senator for her claims.

Castro said the senator’s accusations won’t affect the President and that the allegations of drug use were debunked way back in 2021. — JMA/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
