Bidder after 'history' in purchasing Discaya luxury car
The "history" behind the alleged ill-gotten luxury cars of controversial couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya, key figures in the multi-billion peso flood control scandal, enticed one of the winning bidders to secure one of their vehicles.
Ladislaw Matawa, the representative of the bidder, acquired a 2022 Lincoln Navigator for a bid price of P7,100,000.00 against an initial floor price of P7,038,726.14. He said he bidded on behalf of his "boss."
"Inutusan lang po ako ni boss. Ako lang po pinabili. Gagamitin po yata," Matawa said, adding that the luxury car will be for personal use.
(My boss just instructed me to do this. I was the only one he sent to buy it. I think it will be used for something.)
When asked for the reason behind the purchasing of the Lincoln car, Matawa responded: "Gusto niya 'yung history."
(He likes the history behind it.)
The Lincoln Navigator was one of the three vehicles that were sold during a public auction Thursday by the Bureau of Customs (BOC). The agency said Lestrell Jewelries was the winning bidder of the Lincoln vehcile.
A Mercedez-Benz G500 Brabus for P15,500,000 and a Mercedes Benz G63 AMG (2022) for P15,611,710, were both sold to another bidder, identified as Simplex Industrial.
The bureau said it was expecting to collect a total of P103,865,125.97 if all seven Discaya-owned vehicles were sold.
The public auction for the seven luxury cars previously owned by the Discayas began last November 20. To recall, the bureau said an estimated P100 million in taxes were left unpaid when the Discayas acquired 13 of their 30 luxury vehicles. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
