DOH: Dengue cases went down to 14K cases in October before typhoons

Mosquitoes causing dengue

The number of dengue cases nationwide went down in the week of October 12 to 25, totaling 14,038 cases before typhoons Tino (Kalmaegi) and Uwan (Fung-Wong) hit the country, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

This was an 8% decrease from the 15,182 dengue cases recorded from September 28 to October 11, the DOH added.

The Health Department said it is possible that after the passage of the typhoons, containers left lying around may have collected water which could have served as breeding ground of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which can spread the dengue virus.

The DOH thus reminded the public not to be complacent but to observe the 4T strategy: Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, at Takip — flip, empty, dry, and cover containers to avoid having Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breed.

The department also urged the public to seek medical attention should they experience symptoms such as fever, rashes, body pains, eye pain, dizziness, and vomiting. —KG, GMA Integrated News
