Maximum security prison eyed for Alice Guo

Former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo will be brought to a maximum-security facility once the court orders her transfer to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said on Saturday.

According to a 24 Oras Weekend report, Catapang told Super Radyo dzBB that Guo will first undergo a medical examination and a five-day quarantine before she can be admitted to the maximum-security prison.

On Thursday, the Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) sentenced Guo to life imprisonment for qualified human trafficking in relation to a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) that was involved in illegal activities.

Guo, however, filed a motion to remain at the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory instead of being transferred to an all-women correctional facility following her conviction.

The court will hear Guo's motion on November 26.

Catapang said the BuCor plans to assign additional security personnel to ensure Guo’s safety once she is admitted to the maximum-security facility.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/MCG, GMA Integrated News
