DILG to probe alleged data breach by hackers

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Sunday it is verifying claims that its internal systems were breached by hackers.

In a statement, the agency said their systems remain stable but that they have activated containment and security protocols to secure data.

“Our technical teams and government cybersecurity units are undertaking the appropriate investigative steps,” the DILG said.

“For now, we ask the public not to rely on unverified posts,” it added.

The statement followed after IT Expert and ScamWatch founder Art Samaniego Jr. said that hackers have taken around 400GB of data from the DILG in a large-scale government data breach.

“We will be coordinating with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group about this,” he said in a Facebook post. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
