Liza Marcos: Instead of theatrics, I focus on teaching future lawyers
A day after former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co tagged her in alleged agriculture importation rackets, First Lady Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos said she prefers to focus on teaching future legal counsels about truth and the law.
"While some may choose theatrics, I'd rather focus on teaching future lawyers how the law truly works—where truth is the standard and proof is the language we live by," she said Thursday in a social media post.
Araneta-Marcos, who is also a law professor, said she is proud of her students.
"Despite the storms, earthquakes and bogus bomb threats that plagued Iloilo City this semester, when they showed up for class, they were prepared, curious and ready to dissect the latest jurisprudence," she said.
The First Lady has been with the law faculty of West Visayas State University in Iloilo City since 2022. She has been teaching law at five other law schools since 1996.
She wished her students good luck in their final exams.
Co had accused Liza of allegedly intervening to stop congressional inquiries into the soaring prices of onions and rice in recent years, supposedly to protect her and her brother's interests in the industry.
In his latest video message released Wednesday, Co alleged that the First Lady and her brother, Martin Araneta, were profiting from agricultural imports.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Attorney Claire Castro said the Palace could see the “motive” behind Co’s accusations against the First Lady.
Castro said the First Lady just ignored the negative accusations.
“Alam natin kasi at alam [ni First Lady] kung ano ang katotohanan at iyon, may mga taong nagtatanggol at nagsasabi kung ano nga ba iyong nangyari,” she said.
(We all know and the [First Lady] knows what the truth is, and there are people who are defending her and stating the truth behind what actually happened.)
“Makikita naman po natin kung ano talagang motibo dito. Sabi nga natin na mas maganda po na kung mayroon siyang video, dapat lahatan para hindi unti-unti at nagagamot kung ano iyong mga pagkakamali sa mga una, pangalawa, pangatlong video… at ang hamon nga ng Pangulo, umuwi siya dito," Castro said.
(We can see what the actual motive is behind this. As we said, it’s better that if he did post a video, it should have been complete and not staggard in a way that it fixes his mistakes from the first, second, third video… and the challenge of the President is for him to go home.)—VDV/NB, GMA Integrated News
