Fire hits Senate building in Pasay

Fire broke out at the Senate building in Pasay City on Sunday morning, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection - National Capital Region (BFP-NCR).

In its report, the BFP-NCR said the fire was reported at 6:30 a.m. and reached the second alarm at 6:58 a.m.

Five fire trucks and an ambulance responded and arrived at the area.

The fire was declared out at 8:20 a.m.

It reportedly started at a commercial area on the third floor, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Super Radyo dzBB.

The BFP-NCR has yet to provide information on the possible casualties, cost of damage, as well as the cause of the fire as of posting time.

For his part, Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said that important documents were safe following the fire.

“Rest assured that all pertinent Senate documents - including those of the Blue Ribbon Committee - remain intact, safe, and completely unaffected by the fire. The Senate is working closely with the BFP and internal security to ensure the continued safety of the premises and personnel and to prevent similar incidents moving forward,” he said in a statement.

“The Senate’s maintenance team will be working round the clock to dry and restore the Session Hall to ensure it is fully ready for Monday’s session,” he added.
