VP Sara Duterte on Bonifacio Day: Let us use his sacrifice as inspiration

Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday called on the public to look at the sacrifices of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio as an inspiration to fight for justice in the country.

“Gawin nating inspirasyon ang kanyang sakripisyo upang ipaglaban ang katarungan, pagkakapantay-pantay, at magandang kinabukasan ng Pilipinas,” said Duterte in her message on the 162nd birth anniversary of Bonifacio, which also coincides with the second iteration of the massive anti-corruption protests.

“Mahalin natin ang Pilipinas—para sa Diyos, sa Bayan, at sa bawat Pamilyang Pilipino,” she added.

(Let us love the Philippines—for God, for Country, and for every Filipino Family.)

Thousands of individuals joined protest actions on Sunday at EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City; Rizal Park, Liwasang Bonifacio and Mendiola in Manila; as well as Baguio City, Antique and other areas in provinces to denounce corruption in flood control projects.

Earlier, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to uphold patriotism and love of country as the nation marked the 162nd birth anniversary of Bonifacio on Sunday.

In a statement, Marcos encouraged the public to follow Bonifacio’s example in defending the nation’s honor and upholding its virtues through their actions.

“Buong-lugod nating isapuso ang tungkuling wala nang hinihigit pa sa pag-ibig sa ating Inang Bayan,” he said.
