BuCor-BJMP-PCW sign memo for reintegration of women PDLs

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on Monday signed a memorandum circular for the reintegration of female persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) into society.

In a statement, the PCW said the circular on Gender-Responsive Detention Facilities and Services was signed by PCW chairperson Ermelita Valdeavilla, BJMP chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera, and BuCor chief Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr.

“This landmark agreement strengthens gender-responsive standards for women deprived of liberty, ensuring dignity, rehabilitation, and meaningful support as they prepare to reintegrate into society,” the PCW said in a statement.

The PCW called the memorandum circular as a “unified step toward a justice system that protects, empowers, and upholds the rights of all women.”

In the statement, Valdeavilla underscored that women PDLs must be given opportunities to heal and rebuild their lives.

Meanwhile, Rivera affirmed the BJMP’s commitment to the National Action Plan to End Violence Against Women (NAP-EVAW).

Catapang, for his part, emphasized the importance of helping women return to their families and communities. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
