Cassie Ong in PH —Palace

Cassandra Li Ong, who is facing human trafficking charges, is in the Philippines, Malacañang said on Wednesday.

Cassandra Li Ong, who is facing human trafficking charges, is in the Philippines, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a briefing that the information came from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Castro said operations to locate her are ongoing.

''Based sa kanilang records nasa Pilipinas pa po si Ms. Cassandra Ong, at patuloy pa rin po ang paghahanap sa kaniya dahil nga siya po ay tinatawag na fugitive dahil may warrant of arrest na po,'' she said.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has offered a P1-million reward for information on the location of Ong.

The reward came after Senator Sherwin Gatchalian told a Senate panel that Ong had been released from detention at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City and was now "at large."

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission earlier said that Ong’s last location was tracked in Japan. The agency said that there is no information on her location after this.

In May this year, the Angeles, Pampanga Regional Trial Court Branch 118 issued warrants of arrest against Ong and others for qualified human trafficking in relation with the alleged scam hub run by Lucky South 99.

The Court of Appeals (CA) in July dismissed the petition filed by Ong against the resolution of the Department of Justice (DOJ) that indicted her for qualified human trafficking. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
