AFP reviewing disability discharge rules after Marcos' order
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday its disability discharge rules are under review following the order of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“Following the call of our Commander-in-Chief, President Marcos Jr., ang tinitingnan natin dito, we are closely coordinating with the Department of National Defense (DND),” AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla said at a press briefing.
“We are conducting a comprehensive review nitong [of this] existing [Complete Disability Discharge] policy natin to ensure that no wounded or disabled personnel are left out, especially if nakuha nila ito [they got this] because of it's in line of duty,” she added.
Marcos ordered the DND and AFP to reassess their disability discharge rules after the reported forced retirement of a soldier who lost his vision.
Philippine Army Captain Jerome Jacuba lost his eyesight in an explosion in Maguindanao in 2016 and was issued a CDD that reportedly ended his career in the military. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
