LTO issues show cause order vs. motorist who let minor son drive on national highway

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday summoned the parent of a minor boy who drove a vehicle along the national highway in Lanao del Sur.

This was after a video of the boy’s driving went viral on social media.

The LTO’s show cause order (SCO) – issued by LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao – directed both the boy’s parent and the owner of the vehicle in question, a Suzuki Wagon, to personally submit a written explanation to the LTO Regional Office 10 in Cagayan de Oro City.

(According to Asec. Lacanilao, those involved must personally go to the LTO Regional Office 10 in Cagayan de Oro City and submit sworn written explanations within two (2) days from receipt of the order, to explain why they should not be subjected to disciplinary action.)

(Should they fail to comply, the LTO will proceed with resolving the case based on the available evidence.)

The LTO said the parent of the boy and the vehicle owner may face charges of violating traffic laws, such as: unlicensed driver, improper person to operate a motor vehicle, and reckless driving. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
