Comelec employees urge voters: Vote wisely
Members of the Comelec Employees Union (EU) called on Filipinos Friday to vote wisely amid growing public outrage against corruption.
The Comelec-EU, which represents over 5,000 rank-and-file employees of the poll body nationwide, unfurled a tarpaulin streamer at the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila, urging voters to make wise, informed choices during national and local elections.
“As citizens of a democracy, it is our responsibility to not just vote, but to vote wisely,” Mac Ramirez, Comelec-EU campaigns and advocacy director, said.
“Voting is our direct means of ensuring that leaders with integrity are elected to office. Gising na bayan, bumoto ng tama. By way of our votes, we have the power to secure a government that is clean, honest, and dedicated to the welfare of the people," he said
The Comelec-EU likewise urged eligible Filipinos to register to vote, saying it is "every vote counts and every registered voter strengthens our democracy.”
“Your vote is your voice. Don’t miss the opportunity to be heard and to help shape the future of our country,” said Comelec-EU National President Imelda Panis.
"We urge every eligible Filipino to visit their local Comelec office and register to vote. Every vote counts and every registered voter strengthens our democracy," Panis added.
The Comelec is currently preparing for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) and the first-ever Bangsamoro elections.
On October 20, the poll body resumed voter registration for the 2026 BSKE. It will run until May 18, 2026. Exempted in the voter registration period, however, are areas in the Bangsamoro in light of the suspension of the parliamentary polls.
The Comelec said more than 700,000 applicants registered to vote, nearly half of the poll body's target 1.4 million new voters as of November 30. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
