No new regulations vs imported cars, modifications, tire age — LTO chief Lacanilao

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao on Saturday denied claims circulating on social media that the agency would implement a series of new regulations against imported cars, illegal modifications, and tire age.

"The LTO clarifies that these claims are 'not true.' No such directive, policy, or memo had been issued," Lacanilao said.

The LTO chief issued the statement following claims that the LTO and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will begin randomly pulling over imported, project, and exotic cars to inspect all importation and tax documents; authorities will “cross-check engine numbers” and penalize “illegal modifications” such as loud exhausts.

Other claims had Lacanilao supposedly issuing a memo directing HPG to ticket vehicles with tires older than five years, calling them “not roadworthy,” and that vehicle registrations will allegedly be affected by these supposed new rules.

"For accurate updates, follow the LTO official website and social media pages," Lacanilao said. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
