Christmas ‘carmageddon’ paralyzes Marcos Highway on weekend
Motorists on Marcos Highway were sat through high-volume traffic on Saturday amid the Christmas season.
According to Mav Gonzales’ report in “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, vehicles going to Marikina City and Antipolo City were either moving slowly or not moving at all.
Some motorists shared their “carmageddon” experience online. One posted that they were almost three hours on the road from Mandaluyong City and still haven’t reached their home in Marikina City. Meanwhile, others had no choice but to walk along the road.
On the other hand, commuters gathered outside the malls alongside the highway as they patiently waited for something to ride home.
Even Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Task Force Special Operations chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija was stuck on the road for almost half an hour.
But MMDA said that the traffic along Marcos Highway on Saturday was only due to the high volume of vehicles coming from C5 and EDSA.
On Sunday, the traffic situation along Cainta Junction going to Marcos Highway has already improved compared to the previous day.
Meanwhile, the rush hour traffic along EDSA on Friday was worsened by the 23 road crash incidents and eight stalled vehicle incidents between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. But the traffic improved in some parts of EDSA at around 8 p.m. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
