Advincula: Draw strength, courage from Mary amid corruption issues in PH
Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula on Monday called on Filipino Catholics to draw strength and courage from the Blessed Virgin Mary in confronting corruption and poverty issues in the country.
Advincula made the statement during the Eucharistic celebration for the Immaculate Conception feast day at the Manila Cathedral.
“Kung minsan ay parang wala na tayong pag-asa tulad na lamang sa isyu ng katiwalian na kinakaharap ng ating bayan ngayon at sa patuloy na suliranin ng kahirapan na lalong nagpapahirap sa marami nating kababayan,” Advincula said during his homily.
(Sometimes it feels like we have no hope, especially with the issue of corruption in our country and with the ongoing problem of poverty that makes our countrymen’s lives more difficult.)
“Ibaling natin ang ating mga mata kay Maria. Sa kanya tayo humugot ng sigla, lakas at tapang upang harapin ang mga hamon ng buhay,” he added.
(Let us turn our eyes to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us draw inspiration, strength, and courage from her in facing the challenges of life.)
Advincula described the Blessed Mother as a “guiding star” that will lead Catholics to Jesus Christ.
“Her faith does not waver. Her presence does not dim. She bears witness to a faith that remains constant even when her life seems uncertain or stormy,” the prelate said.
“When our hearts feel confused, when our families face trials, when society seems overwhelmed by division, corruption, or fear, Mary's presence is like a star that whispers, "God is still here",” he added.
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is considered a holy day of obligation, which celebrates the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary without original sin.
There have been anti-protest rallies organized in Manila and in other parts of the country. On November 30, thousands joined the anti-corruption protests held across Metro Manila, including society groups, students, and religious groups. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
