Marcos: Though thankless, public service is a job that is worth it

If one must enter politics, one must do so for the right reasons – and this is to serve the people.

That was President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s advice to those aspiring to enter public service in his latest BBM Podcast uploaded on social media, in which three students interviewed him.

“I think you’re well-guided so long as you enter politics for the right reason. And there’s only one right reason to serve. There’s no other correct reason,” Marcos said.

“It’s a thankless job, that’s for sure. But it’s worth it. You know, it’s worth it,” the President added.

He said it was a “privilege” to be able to help somebody outside of one’s family or community and effect changes.

“May nagawa ka, nagbago 'yung buhay ng tao. Can you imagine, binago mo ‘yung buhay ng tao. What a privilege to be able to do that,” the President said.

(You were able to do something, you changed someone's life. Can you imagine, you changed the life of a person. What a privilege to be able to do that.)

In the same podcast, Marcos expressed hope that future administrations would continue and build on the structural reforms initiated under his leadership.

The students who interviewed Marcos were Kathleen Anne Millonte of the University of the East and Jannine Lagbawan of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, both student journalists, and Agripino John Partick Ga-an from the College of Law of West Visayas State University. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
