Marcos moves PCO exec to MECO board in Taiwan
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Cherbett Karen Maralit as a member of the Board of Directors of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), Malacañang said on Tuesday.
She replaces former Presidential Communications Office acting secretary Jay Ruiz on MECO’s board.
The MECO is the Philippine government’s de facto embassy in Taiwan, in keeping with the country's One-China Policy.
Maralit’s appointment letter is dated December 2. No reason was given for Ruiz’s replacement.
Before her MECO post, Maralit served as PCO undersecretary for operations, administration, finance, and government-owned or controlled corporations.
She reportedly served as Chief of Staff to the late former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
