Marcos pushes AI use in lawmaking

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said the Philippines should maximize the use of artificial intelligence, even in crafting legislation.

Marcos made the remark in the latest episode of the BBM Podcast, where he was interviewed by three students.

“Legislation is always years behind technology. And the reason is, generally, legislators do not immediately understand technology," he said.

"Meron diyan medyo techie na nakakaintindi pero karamihan hindi. (There are a few of them there who are techie but most are not). So what will (they) legislate?” Marcos added.

The Philippines should look at making full use of the advantages that AI offers, but its users must also be wary of its possible misuse, the President said.

“What's the best way for the Philippines to take full advantage, to maximize the use of AI… The other side of the equation is: what are the things na kailangan bantayan natin,” he added.

Marcos also reiterated the need to guard against "fake news" and disinformation.
