Bongbong on being a Marcos: I'm the luckiest person I know

President Bongbong Marcos considers himself as the luckiest man he has ever known because of his family background.

“Absolutely not.”

This was the response of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. when asked if he wished to live with a different family background.

“Oh my gosh! Would I want to have been born into another family? Absolutely not,” Marcos said in an episode of the BBM Podcast.

For Marcos, he considers himself the luckiest man he has ever known.

“I still consider – parang ang tingin ko sa sarili ko, ako na ang pinakasuwerteng tao na kilala ko,” Marcos said.

(I see myself as the luckiest person I’ve known.)

“Wala na akong kilala na tao na masuwerte pa sa akin dahil ganyan ang naging ama ko, ganyan ang naging mother ko, ganyan ang naging experience ko,” he added.

(I don’t know anyone who’s luckier than me because of my father, my mother, and my experiences.)

Marcos said he has learned a lot from his experiences in his family.

“Kasi lahat naman ng experience kahit hindi ka nage-enjoy, may natututunan ka eh, ‘di ba?” Marcos said.

(All experiences result in learnings, right?)

History

The President, who served as a governor, congressman, and a senator, admitted that when he was young, he was not inclined to enter politics.

Marcos said his parents was dismayed before as he did not want to enter politics because he already saw the hardships of his parents, late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

“Sabi ko, nakita ko ‘yung magulang ko, ang hirap ng buhay nila, ang daming sakripisyo. Sabi ko, ayaw ko na – ‘yung tahimik lang na buhay. That's why I went to business school,” Marcos said.

(I saw my parents, their hardships, their sacrifices. I said I don’t like anymore. That’s why I  went to business school.)

However, fate has a different plan for him. With this, Marcos said he has no regrets.

“Pero hindi ganyan ang buhay, hindi mo ma-predict. Kaya dito ako napunta. Not that I regret anything of it. I do not regret one day,” Marcos said.

(Life wasn’t like that. You cannot predict. That’s why I’m here.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News
