SC announces the passing of retired Justice Bernardo P. Pardo
The judiciary is mourning the passing of retired Associate Justice Bernardo P. Pardo, the Supreme Court announced on Thursday.
"Justice Pardo will always be remembered for his honesty, integrity, wisdom, zeal and commitment to service and excellence as a jurist, lawyer, and law professor, admired and treasured by his colleagues in the Judiciary and the legal profession," the SC said in a statement.
"He is also known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity to the people who worked for and with him," the high court added.
Pardo, who passed away on December 10, was appointed by former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada on October 7, 1998.
From February 1995 to October 1998, he served as Chairman of the Commission on Elections and was Court of Appeals Justice from 1993 to 1995. He worked as Regional Trial Court and Court of First Instance Judge from 1974 to 1983.
The SC also said that Pardo also worked in the Office of the Solicitor General from 1962 to 1974, and in the Law Office of Jose W. Diokno from 1955 to 1962.
Pardo compulsorily retired from the SC on February 10, 2002.
"His remains lie in state at the Minor Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 5th Street corner Broadway Avenue, New Manila, Quezon City," the SC also said.
Viewing is from December 11-13, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. while a Necrological Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 3 p.m.
The interment will be on Sunday, December 14, 2025, 11 a.m., at the Manila Memorial Park, Sucat, Parañaque. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
