PNP gives tips vs common crimes amid Christmas season

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday shared safety reminders to the public to avoid common crimes during the Christmas season.

At a press conference, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said that during this period, the common crimes are theft, robbery, and various online scams.

He urged the public to be cautious when posting travel plans or locations on social media as criminals often target households left unattended during vacations.

(The PNP is advising those who are leaving their homes not to be too social media conscious where we say our locations, where we are going.)

Tuaño said the PNP will deploy personnel to cover residential areas to avoid theft and robbery.

The PNP official also cautioned the public against “too good to be true” offers on online shopping platforms because they are probably scams.

“Ang keywords dyan ay kapag ang offer ay too good to be true.

(The keywords there are when the offer is too good to be true. When it is too low and the discount on what they are offering is too big.)

(For example, in bookings, once customers have made a down payment, they can no longer contact the agents. There are also many types of scams out there. We will provide advisories.)

In case of emergencies, the PNP encouraged the public to immediately call 911. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
