Marcos inspects Oplan Kontra Baha in Bacolod

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Friday inspected the ongoing implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha: Bacolod City Waterways Clearing and Cleaning Operations at the Mambuloc Creek in Barangay 2, Bacolod City.

''Sinimulan natin ito sa Metro Manila tapos nagkaroon na tayo sa Cebu at sumunod ang Bacolod,'' Marcos said in his message.

(We started this project in Metro Manila then we also have in Cebu then Bacolod.)

''Ito ‘yung… Kagaya ng ating ginawa dun sa iba ay ‘yung dredging at saka ‘yung pagkolekta ng basura at para naman mabawasan ang pagbaha,'' he added.

(Like what we're doing with other projects, this involves dredging and trash collection to ease flood problems.)

Marcos reiterated that this project could ease floods by at least 50 to 60 percent.

Launched on December 5, 2025, this initiative is led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), together with active support from private sector partners.

The operations involve dredging, declogging, clearing and maintaining Bacolod City’s priority waterways. It covers 30,785.69 cubic meters of drainage systems as well as nine rivers and creeks with a total volume of 2,175,323.11 cubic meters.

These major waterways include Banago Creek, Mandalagan River, Mambuloc Creek, Maupay Creek, Lupit River, Magsungay River, Tangub Creek, Pahanocoy Creek and the Sum-ag River, stretching over 169,447 meters throughout Bacolod City's barangays. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
