DepEd announces 2-week Christmas break in public schools starting Dec. 20, 2025
Students of public schools are in for a two-week Christmas break as the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday announced the observance of the holiday break starting Dec. 20, 2025.
In a Facebook post, the DepEd said classes in public elementary schools and high schools will resume on Jan. 5, 2026.
This is provided for in DepEd Order No. 12, series of 2025 or the “Multi-year Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities” that was released in April this year.
The directive stated that the “holiday break occurs during the last two weeks of December, with classes resuming within the first week of January of the following year.”
It added that private schools, Philippine schools overseas, and state/local universities and colleges may adopt the guidelines, but must follow the law that the school calendar should be not more than 220 days.
“The schools shall report any inevitable deviation from these guidelines in advance to their respective regional offices,” the order added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
