Marcos names new CTA presiding justice

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Ma. Belen Ringpis-Liban as the new presiding justice of the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).

Ringpis-Liban succeeds former CTA Presiding Justice Roman del Rosario, who stepped down on October 6 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Before her appointment, Ringpis-Liban served as CTA associate justice.

For 17 years, she worked as a Regional Trial Court judge in Malolos and Quezon City. She also served as a solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General and as a confidential lawyer at the Court of Appeals.

Earlier in her career, she worked as a legal assistant at the Philippine National Construction Corporation and as a legal associate at the law firm of Puruganan, Ongkiko & Chato.

According to the CTA website, Ringpis-Liban earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Santo Tomas and a law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law.

She has held several positions in the Philippine Judges Association, including senior vice president, secretary general, vice president for external affairs, and regional director for Region III. In the Philippine Women Judges Association, she has served as secretary and auditor.

Ringpis-Liban also represented the Philippines as liaison officer to the International Association of Women Judges.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
