Checking in baggage at NAIA just a few taps away through self bag drop counters

Passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) now have the option to check in their luggage themselves with just a few taps at the NAIA’s self bag drop counters, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Wednesday.

“Using the self bag drop counters, passengers can drop off their checked baggage by just scanning their boarding pass and printed baggage tags,” the DOTr said on its Facebook account.

The self bag drop counters were previously rolled out and are being used by several airlines at the NAIA Terminals 1 and 3.

The new self bag drop counters are in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to the DOTr and the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) to improve passengers’ travel experience and reduce long queues at the NAIA.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa NNIC for coming up with the self bag drop counters, para maging mas madali ‘yung biyahe ng mga pasahero. Malaking tulong ito, lalo na’t mahigpit na bilin ng Pangulo na bawasan ‘yung pila ng mga pasahero para hassle-free naman ‘yung pag-check in nila,” Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said in a statement.

The DOTr added that airlines at the NAIA Terminal 2 will be using the same self bag drop counters soon.

On Tuesday, the NNIC unveiled the new passenger facilities and systems at NAIA Terminal 3, such as the biometric Immigration e-Gates, the All-Filipino Tambayan Food Hall, the Mezzanine Food Hall, and a new Dignitaries Lounge.

There are 78 biometric Immigration e-Gates at the NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 under a phased roll-out.

With the upgraded airport facilities, Marcos said the government is looking forward to transform the country as a “tourism powerhouse” in Asia.

“We reaffirm the commitment to position the Philippines as a tourism powerhouse here in Asia,” the President said. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
